Magazine design for skater girls.

STAB is an edgy and distinctive magazine for extreme sport enthusiasts seeking a gritty and authentic insight into the lives and mentality of these athletes.

The ask: Celebrate the history and future of women skateboarding with STAB’s debut issue; its featured article titled “Chick Flip”.

The solve: As a female skateboarder myself, I wanted to empower readers and inspire them to try something new. My approach leveraged a combination of photography, illustrations, lettering and typesetting to portray movement with a touch of rebellion. I used retro halftones and minimal color to ground the history of female skateboarding, which has been there from the start. I let the content speak for itself, with lots of negative space to instill a gritty, no-frills confidence.
